Museum of Cement Asland
The Asland cement factory, located in the hamlet of Clot del Moro, close to Castellar de n'Hug, is closed now for thirty years. It’s one of the most amazing factory sets of Catalan industrialization placed in a unique natural environment. Now, turned into the Cement Museum Asland Castellar de n'Hug it offers the visitor an interpretation centre and an external route through the industrial ruins of the factory.
We can now enjoy a dynamic museum that’s part of Science and Technology Museums network of Catalonia (MNACTEC).
The old factory Clot del Moro Asland was functioning from 1904 to 1975. The last owners, Lafarge-Asland, sold the building for a symbolic price of 498,000 pesetas - (about 3000 euros) - to the Generalitat of Catalonia in 1996.The first phase of its conversion into a museum was inaugurated on September 21, 2002. In June 2005, the factory and its surroundings were declared cultural property of national interest, in the category of historical monuments.
This visit allows us to understand the impressive set of subtraction of one industrial complex, build by a group of industrial visionaries. We have to take into account the technical and transport difficulties for a plant of this size, which supplied the country with cement in moments of strong growth, such as housing and the construction of the new industrial society.
To understand the magnitude of the enterprise, it needs a visit to the Museum of Cement, the touristic Cement Train, the Artigas Gardens and the interchange station in Pobla de Lillet.
