The International Competition of Shepherd Dogs dates from 1962 when a group of stockmen from the region competed on who had the best sheepdog. Since then it is held annually on the last Sunday of August, as part of the Shepherd Dogs championship network of the Catalan Countries.

It was the best that has been done to promote tourism of the town, especially for its long continuity and the fact that it has become international by inviting expert stockmen from abroad.
